FIDDLE AND SLIDE

They drove it like they'd stole it.   It'd cost too much to fix
So  'till their motor exploded,   they ran it 'till it quit
Who knows Where it would leave 'em. They'd let fate decide
Crank the radio loud until the end of the ride

FIDDLE AND SLIDE

Lights flash on the dashboard.  The oil warning is red
It's no time for disasters.   They drove faster instead
With duct tape on the dash lights,
Their troubles were denied
All systems OK  once the tape was applied

FIDDLE AND SLIDE

Smelled like something was leaking.
The talk shows talk for miles
Politicians are speaking, bullshit served with style
Transmission only got louder,  broadcast far and wide
The rumbling under the hood is getting harder to hide

FIDDLE AND SLIDE

We have to stand for our leaders, this bumper sticker reads
The car is dead on the shoulder The engine oil still bleeds
It stands alone in the desert.  Stands for how they lied
They let the radio play until the battery died

FIDDLE AND SLIDE

History counts for zero.  I guess they felt the same
No one can fiddle like Nero  The empire falls in flame
Drown out the burning questions with those songs of  pride
They never answer you straight if they can slip to the side
