Re-learning five old songs...

David asked Facebook friends yesterday what five old songs he should re-learn. In the first 24 hours, there were 130 comments.

His response:

It is so good to hear that these songs are still working out there.  Like Voyager still sending back pictures.

I got chills realizing that Frozen In the Snow has become an Obama song!  There's plenty of old ones that could be recycled with a different subtext and carry a new message.  And then there's songs that I should believe in again because they deserve another chance.  I'm glad to see that Down Here got voted in, because I love it, but the only time it really shines is when I play it in Key West.

And Tattered Old Kite is such lovely poetry with a nod to the repeating form of John Gorka's song Stranger With Your Hair.  And After Your Orgasm, such a vulnerable love song. And This Time, which contains a snapshot of my grandparents as young adventurers.  And Catch Me if I Try for the stolen John Martyn riff from his song Lay it on Down.  And Wildberry Pie, the blind man's love song.  And, yes, return like a veteran to Covert War. It's over for me, but it's not over.
